AN ADVENTURE OPEN TO EVERYBODY
Champions looking for a win

The Dark Dog Moto Tour is one of those rare races where amateur motorcyclists compete alongside with reputed riders in the same playing field.

This eleventh Tour provides us the chance to see Denis Bouan returning to defend his trophy after seven consecutive victories. He will be riding an R6, supported by Yamaha Motor France and Team Delétang, who have several cards up their sleeves. Barbara Collet, seventh in the scratch race in 2011, has set her sights on victory in the Scooter category, competing on a T-Max. Cédric Parmentier, who came third in 2011, is another candidate for the podium; like the boss, Jean-Marc Delétang, he will be at the handlebars of the new Yamaha MT-09. This new three-cylinder engine bike will also be ridden by Anthony Dos Santos, a speed racer who will be tackling his first Dark Dog Moto Tour with the aid of Best of Bike, a dealership in Antibes. To contend with Yamaha, KMT is relying on its champion Julien Toniutti, second in 2011 and third last year, to defend their colours.

Triumph in the race

For the first time ever, Triumph France will be taking part in the Dark Dog Moto Tour with two candidates aspiring for a podium place. Will Milios, Editor-in-Chief of Moto & Motards magazine and fourth in 2012, and Olivier Four, seventh in 2012 despite a fall, are hoping to come away with a podium finish, both riding a Daytona R prepared by Central Twin. This Triumph dealer based in Chalon-sur-Saône will also be at the race, with Bruno Schiltz (eighth position in 2012) on a Street Triple R and the boss of Central Twin, Thierry Boyer.

MV Agusta will also be well represented with Team Scuderia Moto, supported by the Cuers dealership from the Var area. It is entering eight riders on Brutale 675, F3 800 and Brutal 1090 motorcycles, with Julien Vezzuti (sixth in 2011 and ninth last year) leading the group.

Amateurs for pleasure

Along with this sprinkling of champions ready to do battle, over 150 biking enthusiasts have already signed up for the eleventh Tour. Their goal is to rejoin Toulon after a week of biking through France on the back routes and enjoying the unique atmosphere of the biggest motorbike road rally. The Solo category, which allows competitors to participate without assistance, is full; from the 40 available places 20 of them are taken by newcomers. Among these is Alain Cholvy from Ain: “It’s a present from my wife”, explained Alain. “I have done a lot of biking and a bit of track racing and I’ve wanted to do the Dark Dog Moto Tour for years. I love the good-natured atmosphere of the race as well as the idea of travelling through France for a week. I normally ride a KTM RC8 but for the Dark Dog Moto Tour I am going to borrow the missus’s Kawasaki ER6.”

Didier Ganoote from the Lille area will also make his debut: “I wanted to accompany the lads in the Flat Boys Team. And as I love old models, I’ll be at the start on a Yamaha XS 1100”. Other diehard groups will be taking part as usual, including Mondial Team Sport, the Ch’tis Nornands who have announced that they will have twelve or so riders at the start line, and also Team 202 with CNPM and the motorcyclists from the Armée de Terre (French Army) team.
