Newcastle Falcons head off to Italy for Saturday's continuation of their European Challenge Cup campaign, aiming to overthrow pool leaders Overmach Cariparma.
Overmach (Intrip's team) recorded a 22-20 home victory over Roma (MArco61's team) on Saturday in freezing temperatures to see them rise up to second in the Super 10 table, with Treviso's narrow win over Rovigo on Sunday sending Parma back down to third place behind Viadana going in to the break for European action, just two points off the top spot.
The boot of former Italy fly half Francesco Mazzariol (Cocco for Firends) was to the fore, as the 33-year-old slotted five penalties and a conversion to add to No.8 Manoa Vosawai's try.
Born in Fiji, Vosawai has three Italian caps to his name having served out his residency qualifications, and is one of seven capped players in coach Franco Pavan's squad.
Wing Riccardo Pavan, scrum half Pietro Travigli and fly half Mazzariol complete the Italian Test contingent, while USA World Cup centre Paul Emerick, Samoa lock Pelu Taele and Argentina hooker Alvaro Tejeda also boast international experience.
Playing their home games at the 1,500 capacity Stadio XXV Aprile, notable past European victories include their 2005 triumph over Saracens, and of course this season's triumph against French club Brive in round one.
Falcons director of rugby, Steve Bates, said: "We have done our research on Parma, and we know they are no mugs.
"Stuart Grimes played last season in Italy and has some useful contacts who have provided us with information, we have seen them in action and we are fully aware that especially in Italy it will be a tough encounter.
"Their domestic record in Italy this season is right up there with the top sides, they have already accounted for Brive in Europe and we will be going over there with a string squad intent on getting the job done."
