Regarding the pipe lengths...... Ducati and most manufacturers use equal length pipes and / or a balancing tube or chamber of some sort. Look underneath a new Monster 4valve- Ducati went to a great amount of work to incorporate a balancing chamber there. But then look at the new Mike Hailwood replica, Unequal pipe lengths and no balancing tube .. The racers I know and the tuners I have talked to agree that I will loose some power, 5 - 10 horsepower, but only in the high rpm range . Considering the focus of the 916 Roadster this is an acceptable loss especially since we are starting with the 916 rating of 115? horsepower. However, we shall see soon enough as it will be running in 2-3 weeks. If there was room for a balancing chamber , then I would have done it , also aesthetics are a large guiding issue with this bike, as was the case I am sure with the Hailwood replica .
The idea of this bike is to create a pure , lean and aggressive roadster , naked motocycle from the incredible starting point of the 916.. I started this bike long before hearing about the Monster4valve. This is my interpretation of the same thing. It is said, " Never trust a Twin that you cannot see through to the other side " The Idea to start building this motorcycle started when I first saw the twin headlamps of the Triumph Speed triple. I wanted to build a bike for those headlamps to sit on and I love the Ducati's .......I owned a Monster that I customized and I fell in love with this style, More horsepower is a good thing, this bike will wheelie pretty good I imagine. OK , Best Wishes, Robert Steffano
