".....Questa canzone, scritta attorno al 1963/64, è un afro-samba ispirato alla tradizione religiosa candomblè, culto afro-brasiliano degli Orixàs (insieme di dèi Africani) praticato dagli schiavi deportati in Brasile. Il Candomblé era un culto proibito dalla religione cattolica imposta dai colonizzatori, ma si è espanso notevolmente, soprattutto nel Nord Est del Brasile dopo l'abolimento (abolimentooo? deve aver tradotto un brasileiro ) ufficiale della schiavitù del 1888. Ultimamente si contano circa 3 milioni di brasiliani che praticano il culto degli Orixàs come unica fede, ad ogni livello sociale. Non è da confondersi con altri culti simili che hanno circa la stessa origine, tipo la Umbanda, la Macumba o l'Omoloko..."
